Scots firms to rise to the challenge
MSP calls for support of Scotland’s businesses ahead of St Andrews Champions Challenge
Minister for Community Safety, Fergus Ewing, is to address a business delegation at an event held by BusinessClub Scotland at the St Andrews Open Championship later today (Wednesday 14 July).
He is expected to discuss economic and budgetary issues concerning the Scottish business community and underline the need to support and grow Scotland’s business base.
Hosted by BusinessClub Scotland (BCS), a free to register business network designed to help the country’s business community secure contracts from the UK’s major international events programme, the event will take place ahead of the highly anticipated Champions Challenge featuring Tiger Woods, Sir Nick Faldo, Ernie Els and Scotland’s own Sandy Lyle.
Minister for Community Safety Fergus Ewing said: “BusinessClub Scotland is a perfect example of how partnership working can help Scottish business fulfil its potential. Its innovative approach means that members are better placed than ever before to grasp the opportunities presented by our major international events programme – despite strong competition from overseas.
“As we continue the recovery from the recession in Scotland, the importance of good business relations has never been greater. We have the businesses, the people and the expertise – BusinessClub Scotland is helping to bring all that together to make Scottish business more competitive on the UK and international stage.”
Programme Director for BusinessClub Scotland, Jane Gotts, said: “The 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne generated over £522m worth of business for local companies and helped them network locally and internationally. Our aim is to provide Scottish firms with the same opportunities linked to the country’s major events programme.
“Working with our partners EventScotland and ScottishPower, we are pleased to be able to offer free networking events across the country and, by linking our events to the country’s international events programme as we have done today with the Open Championship, BusinessClub Scotland helps local businesses to access broader global markets.
“With only 4 years to go until the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles, BusinessClub Scotland is determined to support Scotland’s business community and promote the country’s event expertise.”
BusinessClub Scotland Open Championship networking event takes place today at the Old Course St Andrews offering Club members the opportunity to develop new contacts and win business linked to major events.
